Samantha Larkin, LMFT

Hi, I’m Samantha. Thanks for your interest and taking a minute to read a bit about me. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a master’s degree from the University of Rhode Island. I also obtained my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Eastern Connecticut State University. I have 11 years of experience working in various settings with diverse populations who have been faced with different challenges.

Throughout that time, I have found my passion in working with adults who are struggling with substance use. I have worked to help these individuals to either achieve or maintain recovery by providing them with community resources to increase their support network, by educating them on healthy coping mechanisms to help prevent relapse, and to improve their overall quality of life by achieving abstinence. I also provide support to family members who are being negatively impacted by a loved one’s substance use. I have experience collaborating with different agencies including probation, parole, and DCF. Additionally, I have an abundance of knowledge helping people who identify challenges associated with anxiety, depression, trauma, and those who are impacted by general life stressors. I believe that self-care and being able to set healthy boundaries with people in our lives in order to prioritize our own needs is an essential aspect of overall emotional wellness.

Furthermore, I have experience working with couples with various challenges. I work to identify unhelpful relational patterns, to decrease stressors within the relationship, enhance effective communication skills, heal from infidelity, develop conflict resolution skills, and to improve overall relational satisfaction.

While taking the necessary steps to better yourself and your life can be empowering, starting therapy and the idea of change can feel intimidating- even overwhelming. That’s why I prefer to meet you where you’re at and move at a pace you feel comfortable with to achieve your identified goals successfully. Most importantly, I want you to know it’s okay to ask for help in order to achieve fulfillment and to live a happy, healthy life.
